Mythical Male Pin-Ups: Merman & Faun

Some saucy fantasy for your walls?

This series has finally reached its halfway point! Very excited about that 🙂 I started this mythical creature pin-up set almost a year ago now, with the idea of taking 4 mythical beasts (merman, faun/satyr, faerie, and centaur/unicorn) and putting them into pin-up styled masterpieces.

Finally, the first two of the 4-piece set are ready for public appearance. Each piece was originally drawn in ink on a roughly 16×26 inch piece of heavy weight paper stock, then finished in Photoshop to make them stand out while also complimenting each other.

The next two will be done this year, though I can’t guess when. I’m very excited to get to the unicorn centaur (yeah, you read that right!) though I think I might save him for last. Like a pretty little reward for getting the other three finished!

I’m delighted to hear what you think! I’ll have them up in my etsy shop before long, so please stay tuned! You can also message me through my website (www.SimplyKitts.com) if you’d like to order one or both directly 🙂

Star Wars Elephants: Wookie Mammoth

WookieMammoth

How could I resist?!

This is the newest addition to my Star Wars Elephant mini-series: The Wookie Mammoth! As a Chewbacca fan, I really couldn’t say no when the idea hit me upside the head. He took several different name changes, but now that he’s painted and finished, one of them has stuck. 🙂

This piece is originally 8.5 x 11 inches in size, painted in watercolors on vellum bristol paper stock, and is, at this point in time, available for purchase!

Hope you enjoy! I’ll post about him and his compatriots again once I have them up in my Etsy Shop!

Comic Book Teddy Bear: Robin & Wiccan

Still working away at these Comic Book Teddy Bears. I had a handful of them drawn for my last convention in August (Robin was one of those) but I couldn’t resist finishing up this darling Wiccan bear before all the others! Excited to have these guys finished and ready for printing. With any luck, I’ll be able to get one or two more done before this weekend– I’d really love to finished Speed. 🙂

I don’t know who’s next (either Hulk or Speed!), but I will be streaming the drawing of some more comic book bears Tuesday at 1pm Central Time on my Twitch Creative Channel so come check it out if you’re online! I’ll even be taking requests while I’m on.

Note: I’ll have this little cute along with all it’s companion mini-prints available at Visioncon next weekend!

Star Wars Elephant Series Commission

This wonderful and challenging mini-series was commissioned by a family friend for their newborn baby’s nursery. After seeing my comic book teddy bears, and wanting to have a elephant theme for little Logan, they asked if it was possible for me to make Star Wars Elephants. Well, I certainly hadn’t tried before, and a few sketches later, we decided I was more than happy to accept the challenge!

Three months later, these watercolored little cuties are home with their baby to raise that little guy up right!

I’m toying with doing a few more of these, just because, though I’ll have these prints available in my Etsy shop soon, so keep your eyes peeled.

Each of these paintings is 11 x 8.5 inches, inked using Dr. PH. Martin’s Black Star Matte India Ink and Dr. PH. Martin’s HYDRUS Watercolor sets 1 and 2.

Yodaphant Process Video

Hey, all! Last year, I received a commission request to do a series of three Star Wars-themed Elephants. The commissioner had requested Darth Maul, Boba Fett, and Yoda. I’ll post pictures of all three once I have them cleaned up and ready for the public, but until then, enjoy this little time-lapse video of the inking to watercolor process of the third and final piece finished for the set– Yodaphant!

Let me know what you think! I’m starting to get the hang of video editing, I think… 🙂

2017 Convention Line-up!

Finally sat down and wrote down the comic conventions I’ll be attending this year and thought I would share the good news.

If you’re curious about a con or are thinking of attending, just click the convention name and it’ll link you right to their site (it’ll pop up a new window). The Bolded cons are all paid for and ready to go, while the italicized ones either haven’t opened registration, have not yet gotten back to me on whether I passed the jury, or I haven’t had the funds to get them paid for. Enjoy!

Visioncon (February 24th thru 26th)
Little Apple Comic Expo (March 18th)
StealthCon (March 25th thru 26th)
Wizard World STL (April 7th thru 9th)
Planet Comicon (April 28th thru 30th)
Conquest48 (May 26th thru 28th)
Sausomecon (June 30th thru July 2nd)
Kansas City Comic Con (TBA)
Dodeca Con-5 (September 15th thru 16th)
Air Capitol Comic Con (November 11th thru 12th)

What a busy year I have ahead of me, huh? My plan was to keep this year localized, see what sized conventions seem to work for me and my work. November and December will most likely bring other non-comic con events along, which I’ll post about when that time of year wanders along.

If you have any questions, if people want to place orders to be picked up at a specific convention, please reach out! I’m super okay with that option. 🙂

Hopefully I’ll be seeing some familiar faces as I drive around the midwest this spring and summer!

New Year, New Goals

Happy New Year, everyone!

2016 was a handful of a year, and I let this blog die out through out with only a handful of posts and updates over the past 12 months. That’s got to change. This 2017, I’m going to try harder to actually bring updates and art work for and featuring Simply Kitts Illustrations. So, to tie off some loose ends, here’s some of the super hero teddy bears I failed to update with last year! Hoping to add even more to the teddy bear collection this year, including Hulk, Robin, Red Skull, Riddler, Spider Gwen, Jean Grey, Hulkling and Wiccan! I’ve got all these teddy bear prints available in my Etsy shop, along with some stickers and buttons. I’ve got a whole slew of midwest comic cons lined up this year and will be posting about them in the near future.

Super Bears – Joker & Harley Quinn

They aren’t “super heroes” or even really “super” at all, but you have to have some villains if you’re going to have super heroes. Besides… DC makes some real good villains. I originally made these designs to be hung side by side, too.

That’s it for super bears so far, though I have several more that are still in progress, including the Sub-Mariner and Dr. Strange. 🙂

Super Bears – Captain America & Bucky Barnes

That Captan America bear was absolutely one of my favorite installations to my Super Bear project. He even got a title– “Steven “Fight Me” Rogers”.

And, of coarse, where would Captain America be without his faithful young side kick, Bucky Barnes?? Before anyone fusses about “That isn’t Bucky from the movies!”, You’re absolutely right. It’s not. I designed his bear print off of the young side kick from his comics because I love that uniform and those colors. I’m planning to make another one that better suits MCU-WWII Steve (mostly because there isn’t enough Winter Soldier anything. Period.) but until then, he gets this one.

I’ll have another set of these adorable bears coming your way tomorrow, so check back!
