Happy New Year, everyone!
2016 was a handful of a year, and I let this blog die out through out with only a handful of posts and updates over the past 12 months. That’s got to change. This 2017, I’m going to try harder to actually bring updates and art work for and featuring Simply Kitts Illustrations. So, to tie off some loose ends, here’s some of the super hero teddy bears I failed to update with last year! Hoping to add even more to the teddy bear collection this year, including Hulk, Robin, Red Skull, Riddler, Spider Gwen, Jean Grey, Hulkling and Wiccan! I’ve got all these teddy bear prints available in my Etsy shop, along with some stickers and buttons. I’ve got a whole slew of midwest comic cons lined up this year and will be posting about them in the near future.
They aren’t “super heroes” or even really “super” at all, but you have to have some villains if you’re going to have super heroes. Besides… DC makes some real good villains. I originally made these designs to be hung side by side, too.
That’s it for super bears so far, though I have several more that are still in progress, including the Sub-Mariner and Dr. Strange. 🙂
That Captan America bear was absolutely one of my favorite installations to my Super Bear project. He even got a title– “Steven “Fight Me” Rogers”.
And, of coarse, where would Captain America be without his faithful young side kick, Bucky Barnes?? Before anyone fusses about “That isn’t Bucky from the movies!”, You’re absolutely right. It’s not. I designed his bear print off of the young side kick from his comics because I love that uniform and those colors. I’m planning to make another one that better suits MCU-WWII Steve (mostly because there isn’t enough Winter Soldier anything. Period.) but until then, he gets this one.
I’ll have another set of these adorable bears coming your way tomorrow, so check back!
A while back I had posted an image of my Superman inspired teddy bear illustration (Superbear), and just recently realized I never finished putting up the other bears I had finished and sold at Planet ComiCon in May! Oops.
So, here you have Batbear and Stan Lee.
“What? Stan Lee??”
Yes, Stan Lee. Since he was at the convention and it was announced to be one of his last ones, I decided to make a little limited edition print of him as a bear.
Each of these illustrations also produced some pretty adorable buttons, which you can find and purchase in my shop. Haven’t gotten prints up yet, but they will be. Soon.
Stay tuned, I’ve got several more to post up over the next couple days.
No, really, I’ll fight you on this 🙂 As someone who isn’t a fan of the majority of Disney’s sequels, this one might be one of my favorites. They geared it more towards adults, too, with the same amount of cute and plenty of tie-ins to its predecessor. In fact, it might be my favorite sequel… I don’t know, the jury’s still out on that. Monsters U was just SO relatable!
Why does this matter? Well, because it was cute. and as such, it’s my job as an illustrator to showcase something that is that cute! So…. Ta-da!
It’s CUDDLE TIME!! Seriously… This movie was too cute, all the annoying-ness aside. It’s worth a watch. 🙂 Why an otter? Well, you obviously haven’t seen the movie then. Hop to it!
The original painting took about 2 hours, and is only 8 x 8 inches! I’m thinking of making it into a print– anyone interested?
As I said they would! I think Sunday is a mighty fine time to upload a week’s work of critters, don’t you? And this weeks’ selection is pretty amusing.
Sadly, with Christmas (oh, no, I said it!!) only two months away, I’m diving into a season of work I won’t be able to post until after the holidays. That being said, there’s a handful of other, not gift works in progress I’ll be continuing as well as I keep going with this stride I’ve struck recently. It’s good to be getting back into the flow of making art! Who’d have thunk?
I’ve also decided to maybe start showcasing, once a month or so, artist friends of mine for you to investigate and follow as well. I’m gifted with a plethora of talented friends and acquaintances, so please give them a look through in the coming months!
One of my more recent projects. it’s still a work in progress, but it’s also a wonderful little piece to play around with. I’m hoping to make this a promotional/mailer piece, but we’ll see how it goes. The first is the original ink drawing, done with brush and ink. The second is watercolor work done on a print out. It’s been fun, painting again 🙂
